Who they were

Lawrence Cook was a Carmelite and Prior of Doncaster. On 4 August 1540 he was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn together with the Carthusian lay brother William Horne, the layman Robert Bird, the Benedictine Thomas Epson and Giles Heron.

In 1913 the Catholic Encyclopedia placed him among the martyrs passed over in the first English cause, whose case had been sent to Rome in a second one.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

A Carmelite prior executed at Tyburn in 1540 under Henry VIII.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
