Who they were

Father Louis Leroy, an Oblate of Mary Immaculate, was sent to the mission in Laos soon after his ordination. Despite becoming deaf early in life, he worked hard to learn the local languages and tirelessly visited the villages entrusted to him.

On 18 April 1961 he was seized by a communist militia unit and killed in the nearby forest, fulfilling a wish he had voiced as a young man to die a martyr. He was beatified on 11 December 2016 at Vientiane, Laos, together with sixteen other martyrs of Laos, led by the Laotian priest Joseph Thao Tiên.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

Oblate missionary priest killed by communist militia in Laos in 1961; beatified in 2016 among the Martyrs of Laos.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
