Who they were

In the monastery of Grandval in present-day Switzerland, Saint Germanus, abbot, who, having sought to defend with words of peace the people around the monastery attacked by a band of raiders, died together with the holy monk Randoald, stripped of his clothes and pierced by a lance.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 21 February as an abbot of Grandval killed with the monk Randoald while defending local people from raiders.
