Who they were

Vicente Jovaní Ávila was born at Benicarló, in the province of Castellón and the diocese of Tortosa, on 5 December 1902 and was ordained priest on 24 June 1928, having already joined the Brotherhood the year before. For nine years he was prefect of the seminarians at Valencia, Burgos, Valladolid and Tarragona, and he died a martyr at Moncada, near Barcelona, on 5 December 1936. Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, among the martyrs of Joaquín Jovaní Marín and fourteen companions of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The decree on martyrdom records that he died a martyr at Moncada, near Barcelona, on 5 December 1936.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
