Vicente Blanco Guadilla
Who they were
Vicente Blanco was born at Frómista, in the diocese of Palencia, on 5 April 1882, to a humble and devout family. Through the friendship of his parish priest and a chaplain linked to the Oblate Missionaries, his vocation was born; he entered their seminary of Our Lady of Soto in 1895, continued his formation at Urnieta, began his novitiate in France in 1900 and made first vows in 1901.
He was ordained priest in Rome, at St John Lateran, on 14 April 1906, and went on to serve for years as novice master and superior in Oblate houses in Spain. He was killed at Paracuellos de Jarama on 28 November 1936, during the persecution of the Spanish Civil War, and was beatified on 17 December 2011.
