Ubaldo Marchioni
The Vatican record
- 21 November 2025 — Martyrdom recognised (decree list, 2025)
Who they were
Ubaldo Marchioni was a diocesan priest, born at Vimignano di Grizzana Morandi, Italy, on 19 May 1918, who was killed in hatred of the faith at Casaglia (Marzabotto), Italy, on 29 September 1944. Pope Leo XIV recognised his martyrdom on 21 November 2025.
The Dicastery's biography says that on 29 September 1944 he stopped at the church of Casaglia to save the Blessed Sacrament and shelter frightened people; when talks with the Nazi soldiers failed, those present were taken to the cemetery and killed, and he was killed too.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Church recognised him as a martyr in 2025.
The cause
The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.
