Tuto
Who they were
Bl. Tuto, bishop of Regensburg, was at one time private secretary to Emperor Arnulph, became a monk at St. Emmeram in Regensburg and was appointed bishop of that city in 895. Although the friend of monarchs, he maintained the rights of his church against unwarranted aggressions. Emperor Conrad I once ordered him to deliver a costly book of the Gospels to the public treasury in order to cover a financial deficiency, but Tuto refused and laid the book upon the altar with the words: "May St. Emmeram at the last judgment be the accuser of him that dares to remove this book from the church dedicated in his honor." He also built a splendid altar in honor of St. Emmeram, for the adornment of which the gold and precious stones of the crowns presented by Charlemagne, Carlmann and Arnulph to that church, were used. Towards the end of his life Tuto was afflicted with blindness, and he spent all his time in prayer and meditation to the day of his departure from this life in 930.
