The Vatican record

Who they were

Titus Zeman was born at Vajnory near Bratislava on 4 January 1915, the first of ten children of farmers and sacristans. Almost always ill as a child, at ten he was suddenly healed through Mary's intercession and promised to be 'her son for ever' and a Salesian priest. He entered the novitiate in 1931 and was ordained in 1940.

Branded by the communist regime a 'man marked for elimination', he suffered for years in prisons and forced-labour camps beside persecuted priests, political opponents and criminals, because of his faith and pastoral work. He died in 1969.

The miracles

As a martyr, beatified without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

A Salesian who kept his promise to Mary through years of communist prisons.

The cause

Titus Zeman has been beatified; the cause continues. Favours received, and offers of help, go to the postulation, the office that carries the cause forward: Salesians of Slovakia: the cause of Blessed Titus Zeman.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. Reporting one begins with the postulation.
