St. Anastase
Roman Catholic archbishop and saint
Feast: 7 January (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Anastasius was bishop of Sens from about 968 to 977. He was consecrated at Apuniaco because the cathedral of Sens had been destroyed by fire in 967. He brought the monks back to the abbey of Saint-Pierre-le-Vif, from which they had scattered under his predecessor, and began building a church there in which he was later buried.
He is credited with founding the present cathedral of Sens. Historians and tradition agree in praising his virtues and giving him the title of saint. His feast is kept on 7 January.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
