Who they were

Teresa Subirá Sanjaume was born at Ventolá, in the Pyrenees of Girona, Spain, on 27 February 1875, to a humble family. At twenty she entered the Carmelite Missionary Sisters, taking the name Sister Speranza della Croce (Hope of the Cross), and later served as superior of the community at Vilarrodona.

When the Spanish Civil War broke out her community scattered; captured with her companion Sister Maria Rifugio, she was seized by communist militiamen and shot with her on the road to La Rabassada, near Barcelona, on 31 July 1936, aged 61. She was beatified with 63 other martyrs in Rome on 28 October 2007.

The miracles

As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

Carmelite Missionary Sister shot by militiamen near Barcelona on 31 July 1936 during the Spanish Civil War; beatified 28 October 2007.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
