Serrà d'Oviedo
Who they were
Serrano was one of the first bishops of the diocese of Oviedo; some lists place him third after Adulfo and Gomelo, ruling between 853 and 858, though the diocese's own official list dates his episcopate to 846-868. Nothing else is known of him beyond his name, which appears in an 11th-century list of the relics venerated in Oviedo cathedral: "Outside the Ark itself are kept the bodies of the holy martyrs Eulogius... and of Saint Serranus, bishop."
That Holy Ark, which also held the linen cloth said to have wrapped Christ's head, made Oviedo a goal for pilgrims on the Way of Saint James. His feast, originally kept with a double rite on 8 March, was later moved to 11 March.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
Early bishop of Oviedo whose relics were venerated beside the Holy Ark in the cathedral; feast 11 March.
