Serenus the Gardener
Saint
Feast: 23 February (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Sirmium in Pannonia, today in Serbia, Saint Serenus or Sinerus, martyr, who, a gardener, was denounced by a woman he had rebuked for her lewdness and taken prisoner by the judge; he professed himself a Christian and, refusing to sacrifice to the gods, died by beheading.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 23 February as a gardener of Sirmium beheaded for refusing to sacrifice to the gods.
