Secundinus of Rome
Feast: 1 July (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
According to their traditional Acts, which are not considered fully reliable, Saints Castus and Secundinus were bishops and martyrs, probably of the 3rd century. Their story may not even have taken place at ancient Sinuessa, to which tradition links them; one theory suggests devotion to them was imported from Africa and took root among the local faithful.
Their veneration later moved to what is now Mondragone, where they are venerated as patrons; an important castle there helped their veneration spread to nearby towns, and it survives today at Sessa Aurunca, Gaeta, Calvi, Capua, Sora, Trivento and Benevento.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
Bishop and martyr venerated together with Castus, traditionally at Sinuessa, and patron of Mondragone; feast 1 July.
