Who they were

The commemoration of Saint Sarmata, abbot in the Thebaid, in Egypt, who, a disciple of Saint Anthony, was killed by the Saracens.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 11 October as an abbot in the Thebaid, a disciple of Saint Anthony, killed by the Saracens.
