San Leonino
Bishop of Padova
Feast: 5 November (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Leonino was a bishop of Padua, believed to have lived in the first half of the 3rd century. In the 13th-century catalogue of the diocese's bishops recorded in the Liber Regiminum Paduae, he appears tenth, after Suero and before Mariano. He is also mentioned in Rolandino of Padua's chronicle and in the Liber Niger of Padua's Biblioteca Capitolare, which states that he was "canonised," describing him as "a poor man of Padua shining with virtue."
His body first lay in the basilica of Santa Giustina, later in an oratory built in his honour at Prato della Valle, and since 1809 has rested in Padua's cathedral, behind the altar of the chapel of San Lorenzo Giustiniani. His feast is kept on 5 November.
