Saint Simon de Valois
Saint, Count of Amiens, Count of Bar-sur-Aube, Count of the Vexin and of Valois
Feast: 30 September (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Rome, Saint Simon, monk, who, formerly Count of Crépy in France, renouncing homeland, marriage and all his possessions, chose to withdraw first to the monastic and then to the hermit life in the Jura mountains; often called upon to act as legate to reconcile warring princes, he died at Rome and was buried near Saint Peter's.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 30 September as a count of Crépy who gave up everything to become a monk and hermit and reconciled warring princes.
