Who they were
In Palestine, the holy martyrs Peleus and Nilus, bishops in Egypt, Elias, priest, and Paternuthius, who, during the persecution of the emperor Diocletian, were burned at the stake for Christ together with many clerics.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 19 September as a bishop in Egypt burned at the stake for Christ in Palestine under Diocletian.
