Who they were
At Chartres in France, the passing of Saint Gilduin, deacon of Dol in Brittany: elected bishop while still very young, he refused so great an honour in the presence of Pope Saint Gregory VII, judging himself unworthy of it, and, on his way back from Rome, struck by fever, he ended his earthly pilgrimage in this region.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 27 January as a young deacon of Dol who refused a bishopric before Gregory VII.
