Saint Ermengol
Spanish Roman Catholic bishop and saint (died 1035)
Feast: 3 November (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Urgell in Catalonia in Spain, Saint Ermengol, bishop, who was one of the illustrious prelates who worked to re-establish the Church in the lands freed from the yoke of the Moors and, falling to the ground while working with his own hands on the building of a bridge, died when his head struck the stones.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 3 November as a bishop of Urgell who died in a fall while building a bridge with his own hands.
