Saint Émilion
Feast: 16 November (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
St. Emilian was first abbot of the monastery known by his name near Bordeaux. He professed as a monk at Saligny and was by reason of his kindness and affability appointed cellarer. He was a faithful and conscientious official, but, for reasons God alone knows, was accused of squandering the substance of the monastery. He begged permission of his abbot to leave and establish a new monastery elsewhere. Shortly he found himself at the head of a numerous community, even wealthy and highly respected persons seeking his holy guidance. He died in the year 767.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A Benedictine Martyrology (1922) remembers him on 16 November.
