Saint Andrew Stratelates
Syrian saint
Feast: 19 August (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
In Cilicia, in present-day Turkey, Saint Andrew the tribune and his soldier companions, who, as tradition says, having won victory over the Persians by divine help, were converted to the faith of Christ and, accused of this crime, were slaughtered under the emperor Maximian in the gorges of Mount Taurus by the army of the governor Seleucus.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 19 August as a tribune who, tradition says, was martyred with his soldiers in the Taurus mountains.
