Rogatianus of Abitina
saint martyred in 304 AD
Feast: 12 February (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Rogatian is named among the forty-nine Christians of Abitina, in proconsular Africa, who were seized while the priest Saturninus was celebrating the Sunday liturgy during the persecution of Diocletian in 304.
The prisoners were taken to Carthage, sang hymns on the way, and confessed their faith under torture before the proconsul; they seem all to have died in prison. Butler considers the acts of these martyrs genuine.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
One of the martyrs of Abitina, arrested for attending the Sunday Eucharist.
