Rictrude
Merovingian saint
Feast: 12 May (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
In the monastery of Marchiennes near Cambrai in Austrasia, in the territory of present-day France, Saint Rictrude, abbess, who, after the violent death of her husband Adalbald, took the sacred veil on the advice of Saint Amand and governed the consecrated virgins with great uprightness.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers her on 12 May as the widowed abbess of Marchiennes who took the veil on the advice of Saint Amand.
