Pietro Paolo Oros
The Vatican record
- 5 August 2022 — Martyrdom recognised (decree list, 2022)
Who they were
Pietro Paolo Oros was a priest of the Eparchy of Mukachevo (Ukraine), killed in hatred of the faith at Siltse, in the Soviet Union, on 28 August 1953. Pope Francis recognised his martyrdom on 5 August 2022.
The Dicastery's biography says he was born on 14 July 1917 in the village of Biri, Hungary, was ordained on 18 June 1942 and kept up his ministry in secret after the Greek Catholic Church was outlawed in 1949; a policeman shot him dead at the railway station of Siltse on 28 August 1953.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Church recognised him as a martyr in 2022.
The cause
The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.
