Philogonius of Antioch
patriarch of Antioch from 318 to 322
Feast: 20 December (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Antioch in Syria, Saint Philogonius, bishop, who, a lawyer called by God one day to govern this Church, began together with the bishop Saint Alexander and other companions the struggle for the Catholic faith against Arianism and rested in the Lord full of merits; Saint John Chrysostom celebrated him in a famous encomium.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 20 December as a lawyer turned bishop of Antioch who fought Arianism and was praised by Saint John Chrysostom.
