Who they were

At Damascus in Syria, the passion of the Saint martyrs Emmanuel Ruiz, priest, and companions, seven of the Order of Friars Minor and three brothers, faithful of the Maronite Church, who, handed over to the enemy through deceit by a traitor, were subjected to various tortures for the faith and completed their martyrdom with a glorious death.

Among those named is Saint Pedro Soler, a priest of the Order of Friars Minor.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 10 July among the companions of Saint Emmanuel Ruiz, betrayed and killed for the faith at Damascus. Pope Francis canonised the eleven Martyrs of Damascus on 20 October 2024.
