Who they were

Pedro de Zúñiga was a priest of the Order of Hermits of Saint Augustine. With the Dominican Blessed Luis Flores and thirteen Japanese sailors he was arrested as soon as they landed at Nagasaki, and after various torments they were all martyred together. The Holy See names him among the leaders of the 205 martyrs of Japan.

He is one of the 205 martyrs killed in Japan for the Catholic faith between 1617 and 1632 whom Pius IX declared Blessed on 7 July 1867.

The miracles

In 1867 Pius IX approved four signs in the cause of the 205 martyrs of Japan; the source does not describe them.

Why that counted as sanctity

An Augustinian missionary named among the leaders of the 205 martyrs.

The cause

Pedro de Zúñiga y Velasco has been beatified; the cause continues. Favours received, and offers of help, go to the postulation, the office that carries the cause forward: Augustinians: the cause of Pedro de Zuniga.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. Reporting one begins with the postulation.
