Paracode
bishop of Vienne (Dauphiné, France)
Feast: 1 January (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Paracoda, or Paracodes, was the seventh bishop of Vienne in France; ancient sources attest to his existence but tell us nothing of his life beyond his name and his place in the list of the diocese's bishops, coming after St Denis. Medieval attempts to date him — one placing him under Pope Victor at the end of the 2nd century, another around 235 — have both been shown to rest on later forgeries.
Modern scholarship instead places him in the second half of the 4th century, since his successor, St Florentius, is recorded around 374. His feast was fixed for 1 January.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
