Néomaye du Poitou
French saint
Who they were
Born near Loudun, in the diocese of Poitiers, perhaps at Monterre-Silly, Neosnadia (also called Neomaye) lived in the 5th century and left behind nothing of her life beyond a reputation for great virtue and humility. She remains the object of a local and popular devotion in the Poitiers region, where numerous chapels and a parish are dedicated to her.
A recent diocesan Proper keeps her memory on 17 January, the date also given by the Bibliotheca Sanctorum, while in France the feast of Sainte Neomaye (also spelled Noemoise or Neomoye) du Poitou is kept on 14 January.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
Virgin of the diocese of Poitiers venerated locally since the 5th century, with numerous chapels and a parish dedicated to her; feast 17 January (14 January in France).
