Nemesius of Alexandria
Egyptian martyr (ca. 300 CE)
Feast: 10 September (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Alexandria in Egypt, Saint Nemesius, martyr, who, slanderously denounced to the judge first as a thief, was acquitted of this crime, but, pursued during the persecution of the emperor Decius and accused before the judge Aemilianus of being a Christian, was subjected by him to repeated tortures and condemned to the stake in the company of other thieves, in the likeness of the Saviour who suffered the cross together with the two thieves.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 10 September as a martyr at Alexandria burned with thieves under Decius, like the Saviour crucified between two thieves.
