Nazareno Lanciotti
The Vatican record
- 14 April 2025 — Martyrdom recognised (decree list, 2025)
Who they were
Nazareno Lanciotti was a diocesan priest, born in Rome on 3 March 1940, who died in hatred of the faith in São Paulo, Brazil, on 22 February 2001. Pope Francis recognised his martyrdom on 14 April 2025.
The Dicastery's biography says he worked for thirty years as a missionary at Jauru, in Mato Grosso, Brazil; two hooded gunmen shot him at his house on 11 February 2001, and before he died eleven days later he forgave his killers.
