Mustiola
saint
Feast: 3 July (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
According to her legend, Mustiola was a noblewoman of Chiusi who cared for the Christian prisoners there, among them the deacon Irenaeus. The officer Turcius, whose advances she refused, had Irenaeus tortured to death in front of her and then had her beaten to death, supposedly under the emperor Aurelian.
Butler treats the story as legend grown up around a genuine early devotion: a fourth-century inscription in the catacombs of Chiusi honours a married lady of Mustiola's family. She is venerated at Chiusi and Pesaro.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
An early martyr of Chiusi in Tuscany, remembered with the deacon Irenaeus.
