Who they were
In the mountains around Lake Zurich in present-day Switzerland, Saint Meinrad, priest, who, devoted first to the cenobitic life and then to the eremitic life, was killed by robbers.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 21 January as a priest and hermit near Lake Zurich killed by robbers.
