Who they were

Mauricillo, also called Maurilio, was the 38th bishop of Milan, holding the see for a period disputed between four months and ten years and four months, sometime between about 660 and 670; neither the day of his death nor his burial place is recorded. He does not appear in the Roman Martyrology, but the thirteenth-century "Beroldo Nuovo" calls him a saint, and from the fifteenth century the Ambrosian Missals kept his feast on 31 March with a proper prayer and preface.

In 1578 Saint Charles Borromeo removed his feast from the Ambrosian calendar because it fell in Lent, but local devotion continued at the basilica of San Satiro in Milan, where Archbishop Ansperto had translated his relics in the ninth century; they still lie under the high altar, and Charles Borromeo carried out a canonical inspection of them in 1611. His feast at San Satiro, later moved briefly to 23 August under Cardinal Gaysruck, was eventually restored to 31 March.

The miracles

Why that counted as sanctity
