Who they were

Maurice Tornay was born at La Rosière, Orsières, in the Valais, Switzerland, on 31 August 1910 to hard-working farmers of modest means and solid faith, and walked an hour each week down the mule tracks to confession and Communion.

A Canon Regular of the Great St Bernard, in 1936 he was allowed to go to China as a missionary before finishing his theology. He proclaimed the Gospel in China and Tibet and was killed by the enemies of Christ in 1949.

The miracles

As a martyr, beatified without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

A Swiss mountain canon who died for the Gospel on the border of Tibet.

The cause

Maurice Tornay has been beatified; the cause continues. Favours received, and offers of help, go to the postulation, the office that carries the cause forward: The cause of Blessed Maurice Tornay.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. Reporting one begins with the postulation.
