Matthew Lambert
Layman of Wexford, martyr under Elizabeth I
Who they were
The Roman Martyrology for 5 July records that at Wexford in Ireland the blessed Matthew Lambert, Robert Meyler, Edward Cheevers and Patrick Cavanagh, martyrs, the first a baker and the others sailors, were hanged and then disembowelled under Queen Elizabeth I for their loyalty to the Church of Rome and for the help they gave to Catholics; of these he was the baker named first. The Acta Apostolicae Sedis record that Pope John Paul II beatified the seventeen Irish martyrs on 27 September 1992.

Why that counted as sanctity
He was put to death for his loyalty to the Church of Rome and for the help he gave to Catholics.
