Who they were
Nicola Capelli, in religion Martino, was a professed priest of the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Dehonians); he was born at Nembro, Italy, on 20 September 1912 and was killed in hatred of the faith at Pioppe di Salvaro, Italy, on 1 October 1944. Pope Leo XIV recognised his martyrdom on 21 November 2025.
The Dicastery's biography says he was ordained on 26 June 1938 and taught Scripture; he was killed by Nazi troops after his priestly zeal took him to Creda, where killings had taken place.
