Who they were
On a mountain near Apamea in Syria, Saint Maron, hermit, wholly given to harsh penance and contemplation, near whose tomb a famous monastery was built, from which there later arose a Christian community that took its name from him.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 9 February as the Syrian hermit from whose monastery the community bearing his name arose.
