Who they were
St. Marquard, bishop of Hildesheim and martyr, had, before his elevation to the episcopal office, been a monk at New Corbie and abbot of Seligenstadt and had preached the faith to pagans. He was slain by the Normans at Ebsdorf in Saxony in the year 880.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A Benedictine Martyrology (1922) remembers him on 2 February.
