Who they were

Mariano de la Mata Aparicio was born on 31 December 1905 at Puebla de Valdavia, Spain, into a deeply Christian family. Like three of his brothers he joined the Augustinians in 1921, receiving the habit from Blessed Anselmo Polanco, and was ordained in 1930.

An Augustinian missionary in Brazil, his greatest work was the spiritual care of more than 200 'Workshops of Charity of St Rita' in São Paulo.

The miracles

The Dicastery's biography does not describe the miracles approved in the cause.

Why that counted as sanctity

A missionary who inspired hundreds of charitable workshops in São Paulo.

The cause

Mariano de la Mata has been beatified; the cause continues. Favours received, and offers of help, go to the postulation, the office that carries the cause forward: Augustinians: the cause of Blessed Mariano de la Mata.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. Reporting one begins with the postulation.
