Maria de Requesens
Aragonese Roman Catholic nun and blessed
Feast: 31 October (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Maria de Requesens was of noble Catalan birth. She gave away her considerable wealth to the poor and became one of the first Mercedarian nuns after the order's founding by Saint Maria de Cervelló. At the order's first hospital-convent of Sant'Eulalia in Barcelona she became known for great virtue and many miracles attributed to her, ranking among the most brilliant stars of the Mercedarian Order. She died nearly a hundred years old, in 1345.
