Marcius
saint
Feast: 13 April (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Marzio was born in the Auvergne, in Gaul, between about 440 and 445. Around the age of twenty he withdrew to live as a hermit on a mountain called Clermont, and as disciples gathered around him he founded a monastery there around 470, noted for its observance. He was ordained priest and was said to have the gift of miraculous healing.
He died in 530, and his remains were honoured with burial in the monastery's oratory, where many miracles were reported. His monastery later became a dependency of the abbey of Saint-Allyre and lasted until the end of the 18th century; his veneration spread through the Auvergne, and his feast, 13 April, was entered in the calendar of Clermont.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
