Marcianus
4th century monk
Feast: 31 January (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Commemoration of Saint Marcianus, hermit, who, born at Cyrrhus in the territory of present-day Turkey, withdrew to a monastery at Chalcedon, where, living in a narrow dwelling, he ate only a little bread and water in the evening, yet put brotherly love before fasting.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 2 November as a hermit from Cyrrhus who lived in great austerity yet put brotherly love before fasting.
