Who they were

Marcelino Sánchez Fernández was born at Santa Marina del Rey, León, Spain, on 30 December 1910, to a devout Christian family. After ill health forced him to give up studying for the priesthood, he became a lay brother of the Missionary Oblates, entering the novitiate in 1927 and making his perpetual oblation in 1935; he worked as tailor and porter in the community, remembered as a fervent religious devoted to the Virgin, always carrying his rosary.

Arrested with his whole community at Pozuelo de Alarcón on 22 July 1936, he was released, then detained again and held first at the Cárcel Modelo and later at San Antón prison in Madrid. On the night of 27-28 November 1936 he was taken from prison and killed at Paracuellos de Jarama, aged 26.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

Missionary Oblate lay brother, a tailor, arrested with his community and shot at Paracuellos de Jarama on 28 November 1936.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
