Who they were

Luis Vidaurrazága González, a Benedictine monk born in Bilbao in 1901, was the youngest member of the monastic community of Our Lady of Montserrat in Madrid when the Spanish Civil War broke out. When the community scattered after their church was burned and looted, he took refuge in a friend's house but was later captured. He was shot at La Elipa on 31 December 1936, aged 35.

He was beatified in Madrid on 29 October 2016 together with three fellow monks of the same monastery, and their remains are venerated in the 'sacristy of the Martyrs' in the church of Our Lady of Montserrat, Madrid.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

Benedictine monk of Montserrat, Madrid, shot for his faith during the Spanish Civil War on 31 December 1936; beatified 2016.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
