Luis María Fernández Martínez
Dominican friar, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
Luis María Fernández Martínez was born at Villanueva de la Nía on 26 August 1886 and made his first profession in 1908. He had spent some years in Latin America, where he had already known persecution of Christians, and was killed at Almería on 19 October 1936; Pope Francis beatified him on 18 June 2022.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
His body, left in a common grave, was never identified.
