Who they were

Limenio is generally held to have been the second bishop of Vercelli, succeeding the great Saint Eusebius, with an episcopate placed between 371 and his death in 396. He attended the Council of Aquileia in 381, and according to one tradition he baptised and consecrated the famous Saint Ambrose as bishop of Milan. The ancient Eusebian basilica preserves his image in a sixth-century apse mosaic commissioned by the learned bishop Saint Flavian.

His name was never entered in the Roman Martyrology, but its latest edition recognises as legitimate the veneration of 'saints' and 'blessed' who have been given those titles in diocesan calendars and catalogues, as is the case with Limenio.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

Second bishop of Vercelli after Saint Eusebius, present at the Council of Aquileia in 381; his veneration as a saint rests on the diocesan calendar rather than the Roman Martyrology.
