Leontius of Saintes
Feast: 19 March (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Leontius was the thirteenth bishop of Saintes, a figure who emerges from the mists of time like a silent shadow, attested only by two traces that suggest a tireless pastor devoted to his flock. Little is known of him: he took part in the Council of Clichy in 625 and met Saint Malo in 637; he probably died around 640.
His liturgical feast, in the calendar of the diocese of La Rochelle, is kept on 20 March.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
Thirteenth bishop of Saintes, attested at the Council of Clichy (625) and in the life of Saint Malo (637); died around 640.
