Justo González Lorente
Who they were
A professed religious of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, his life was short but full of extraordinary spiritual meaning. Born into a deeply Christian rural family, he cultivated a vocation from childhood that led him to devote all his energy to priestly and missionary formation; his life was cut short at twenty, shot in 1936 during the violent religious persecution that convulsed Spain. His martyrdom, suffered together with other confreres and a layman, was not a chance event but the final act of a total consecration to God, already anticipated in his own will to offer himself.
Born on 14 October 1915 at Villaverde de Arcayos, in the province and diocese of León, to a family known locally for its deep Christian faith, he entered the Oblates' minor seminary at Urnieta at just twelve, on 14 August 1927, beginning a formation marked by discipline, study and prayer; in 1932 he began his novitiate at Las Arenas, showing spiritual maturity beyond his years.
