The Vatican record

Who they were

Juana Vázquez Gutiérrez, in religion Juana de la Cruz, was a professed nun of the Third Order of St Francis and abbess of the convent of Santa María de la Cruz at Cubas, near Madrid; she was born at Villa de Azaña (today Numancia de la Sagra, Spain), probably on 3 May 1481, and died at Cubas de la Sagra, Spain, on 3 May 1534. On 25 November 2024 Pope Francis approved the decree confirming her veneration from time immemorial.

The Dicastery's biography says she made her religious profession on 3 May 1497 and was elected abbess in 1509, at only twenty-seven.

The miracles

She was beatified by confirmation of long-standing veneration, without an approved miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Church confirmed her long-standing veneration in 2024.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
